Improving Dementia Awareness and Promoting Support Policies
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeollanam-do Hampyeong-gun announced on the 15th that it will designate and operate a Dementia Overcoming Week from the 13th to the 17th of this month in celebration of the 14th ‘Dementia Overcoming Day.’
This event was prepared under the slogan, “A country where living is not inconvenient even with dementia, we are truly grateful for you!” to improve negative perceptions about dementia.
The public health center produced videos promoting various support policies related to dementia, including the operation of the Dementia Safety Center, early dementia screening services, treatment cost support, and prevention guidelines during this event.
Also, during this Dementia Overcoming Week, various events to improve dementia awareness will be held, such as a ‘Dementia Overcoming Hope Message Challenge’ photo contest and the distribution of promotional materials from the Dementia Safety Center.
Jung Myunghee, head of the public health center, stated, “In a rapidly aging society, dementia patients are no longer a problem confined to one family but an issue that the local community must consider and solve together,” adding, “We will strengthen support for dementia patients to create a dementia-friendly environment.”
Meanwhile, the Hampyeong-gun Dementia Safety Center provides regular health management services such as dementia symptom management, medication guidance, and depression counseling for registered elderly dementia patients, and plans to continue efforts to establish a dementia safety net.
