"Final primary competition question likely favors Hong Jun-pyo over Yoon Seok-yeol"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Hong Joon-pyo, a presidential candidate from the People Power Party, on the 15th forecasted regarding his competitor, former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, that "there are no positive factors left for a resurgence, only negative ones remain."
On the same day, Hong appeared on MBC Radio's Kim Jong-bae's Focus and said, "(Former Prosecutor General Yoon) has no positive factors left for a resurgence in various ways," adding, "When he first appeared, he was greatly inflated to the fullest." He said, "(Now, former Prosecutor General Yoon) only has negative factors left," and "Eventually, as time goes by, the primary race will tilt. Having been in elections for 26 years, I expect it to be like that."
Regarding the first cut-off scheduled for today, he said, "I would be very satisfied even if I come in second," and "There is still plenty of time ahead." Hong said, "If you look closely at the upcoming presidential election phase, it fluctuates like waves, so there is no need to cling too much to the first cut-off."
He also expressed confidence about the final candidate decision in the future. He predicted, "The additional public opinion poll rule regarding main election competitiveness could become a spark, but as time passes, it will eventually become a favorable clause for me." Hong introduced, "It seems it was introduced because it was advantageous to former Prosecutor General Yoon now, but as time goes by, I told my aides not to worry because it will become a favorable clause for me."
Hong also shared his thoughts on his recent strong performance among the 20s-30s generation and Honam region.
He said, "Over the past four years, the 20s-30s and 40s have been the most vulnerable groups for our party. Our party has been conducting elections based on support from Yeongnam and the middle-aged and older generations over 50," adding, "Now, seeing that it has become difficult to hold elections while being ignored by the 20s-30s and 40s, we have been preparing to turn them to our side over the past four years, and those efforts seem to be paying off as support is rising." Hong said, "The 20s-30s MZ generation have clear convictions and like honesty," and "I think my character matches theirs, which is why explosive reactions are coming out."
