Samsung Beauty Corporation Official Twitter Account Tweets
"How much better would it be if it were foldable?" and more
IT tipsters like Ice Universe praise
"Sorry Samsung, time to switch to iPhone"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Samsung Electronics has sparked attention by posting a tweet seemingly targeting the news of the iPhone 13 featuring a 120 Hertz (Hz) high refresh rate display. In addition to highlighting Apple's late adoption of the 120 Hz refresh rate, the tweet also mocked the fact that it is not a foldable smartphone.
Samsung Electronics' official U.S. Twitter account, 'Samsung Mobile US,' stated at 3 a.m. on the 15th (Korean time), "We have long adopted a comprehensive 120Hz refresh rate." Samsung has been actively supporting 120Hz high refresh rate displays since the launch of its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S20, in February last year.
Samsung Mobile US also posted a tweet seemingly targeting the fact that the iPhone 13 is not a foldable smartphone. They said, "How much cooler would it be if it folded in half?" Recently, Samsung introduced foldable smartphones such as the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3.
The premium iPhone 13 models, the Pro and Pro Max lineups, unveiled on the same day, feature the advanced 'ProMotion' Super Retina XDR display. It offers a variable refresh rate ranging from 10 Hz up to 120 Hz. The refresh rate refers to the number of still images displayed on the screen per second. A 120 Hz refresh rate means the screen is divided into 120 segments per second, making the motion on the screen smoother as the number increases.
Complaints about the previous refresh rate are also expected to be resolved. Despite other high specifications, Apple supported only a 60 Hz refresh rate, which drew dissatisfaction from some iPhone users. This was consistent across all iPhone 12 models, even though many smartphones had already adopted higher refresh rates.
Among IT tipsters, positive reviews continue regarding the iPhone's adoption of the 120 Hz refresh rate. Ice Universe commented, "The animation and smoothness are unmatched," adding, "It's time to switch to iPhone more. Sorry, Samsung." IT specialized media outlets such as The Verge, TechCrunch, CNET, and Tom's Guide also gave favorable reviews.
This is not the first time Samsung has posted tweets seemingly mocking Apple during an Apple special event. Right after the Apple special event in October last year, Samsung Mobile US posted a message saying, "We have been friends with (5G) for a while. Buy a Galaxy 5G device right now," along with photos of Galaxy smartphones. Samsung Electronics' Latin America official Twitter account, 'Samsung Latin,' also indirectly targeted the iPhone 12, which lacks a charger and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Some analysts suggest this is a form of marketing aimed at generating buzz.
