[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 13th that it has enacted the 'Ordinance for the Promotion of the Cultural Content Industry,' becoming the first basic local government to do so.
The ordinance stipulates necessary matters to establish and implement a mid- to long-term basic plan for the cultural content industry, and to strengthen the competitiveness of the cultural city through the growth of related companies and creators, as well as fostering capable startup companies.
It also includes provisions to support the relocation of excellent content companies within the region and to support the operation of specialized investment associations for cultural content.
In connection with the government's regional specialized development zone system, it contains necessary matters to expand and develop areas such as Sangdong Video Culture Complex as a cultural content industry special zone.
In particular, it allows the Cultural Industry Promotion Committee to review important policies, enabling smooth communication and cooperation among various promotion agencies and related industry entities in the region.
The city has steadily prepared to build related infrastructure such as the Webtoon Convergence Center, Sangdong Video Culture Complex development project, and cultural regeneration projects for the Jaktong military base by leveraging cultural capabilities accumulated over the past 20 years in fields such as comics, animation, and film, as well as the status of the story sector. Based on the enactment of this ordinance, it is expected to firmly establish the foundation for fostering and supporting the cultural content industry.
Mayor Jang Deokcheon said, "As the only basic local government to enact the ordinance for the promotion of the cultural content industry, we will strive to foster a leading cultural content industry based on imagination and creativity."
