[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A video has been released showing a vehicle driven by a woman in her 80s crossing over the central divider and rushing into the opposite lane.
On the 10th, a video titled "An 86-year-old woman driving a passenger car in Busan crossed the central divider and rushed into the opposite lane, colliding with a village bus and others, injuring 9 people" was posted on the YouTube channel 'Han Moon-cheol TV.'
The video shows a passenger car driven by Ms. A (86) on the morning of the 7th on an 8-lane road near Seomyeon Intersection on Jungang-daero, crashing through the central divider and rushing into the opposite lane.
Ms. A's vehicle broke through the central divider, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided with a passenger car. The vehicle then hit a village bus and other vehicles before coming to a stop. According to the Busan Busanjin Police Station, 9 people were injured in the accident.
Attorney Han Moon-cheol, who saw the video, said, "Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. It seems everyone was wearing seat belts." He added, "The driver claims sudden unintended acceleration during the police investigation. The police are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident."

Attorney Han said, "Viewers watching this might question, 'Why are drivers involved in sudden unintended acceleration always elderly women?' but it is not easy to simply attribute this to the driver's lack of skill."
He continued, "It is still unknown whether the fault lies with the driver or the vehicle. If the car has a black box, the audio might provide clues." He also added, "Exhaust gases could be a key factor. The EDR (Event Data Recorder) should also be checked."
Finally, Attorney Han advised, "It would be better not to scrap the vehicle quickly but to preserve the evidence."
Netizens expressed various opinions after watching the accident video. One netizen said, "Even if it was sudden unintended acceleration, I don't understand why the car rushed into the opposite lane. It looks like driver error to me."
Another netizen commented, "From the moment the vehicle appears on CCTV, the front of the car is already crushed, so it seems smoke was coming from the engine room rather than exhaust gases." There was also an opinion that "There should be discussions about revoking driving licenses for the elderly."
