"Communication, Not Notification... Will Change Korean Hiring Culture" Lee Taegyu, CEO of Doodlin

"Even during the business execution period, they showed steady growth by discussing business strategies with mentors and developing their business model." This was the evaluation of 'Doodlin,' which took the stage at the '10th Chung Ju-yung Startup Competition' Demo Day on the 26th of last month. At the event marking the end of the six-month journey that began in March, Doodlin was selected as the winner among 12 teams that advanced to the business execution stage, overcoming a competition rate of 90 to 1. This year, the competition, which has produced numerous innovative companies, chose a second-year startup aiming to solve problems in the recruitment market. We spoke with CEO Lee Taegyu about Doodlin's ambition to change Korea's recruitment culture.

On the 10th, CEO Lee said, "The domestic recruitment market is becoming increasingly difficult for job seekers to find jobs, and hiring companies are also struggling to find suitable candidates." He added, "We want to solve the fundamental problem where appropriate applicants do not apply to suitable job postings." To achieve this long-term goal, CEO Lee started by addressing the practical problems faced by participants in the recruitment market. After founding the company in March last year, they operated a service aimed at job seekers to prepare for interviews and write self-introduction letters. In January this year, they launched 'Greeting,' a recruitment management solution for companies, choosing to first solve recruitment issues on the corporate side. He explained, "'Greeting' gathers applicants coming from various recruitment platforms into one place for evaluation and management. As the trend shifts from open recruitment to the relatively more complex rolling recruitment, it is a solution that can flexibly respond to various situations."

In a situation where there are not many services that effectively solve the time-consuming tasks of corporate recruiters, Greeting scratched an itch and received explosive responses. Since its first release in January this year, the number of applicants through Greeting has exceeded 14,000 in just seven months of operation. Recently, the number of applicants has been increasing even faster, with over 1,000 applicants per week. CEO Lee said, "The number of companies registered has surpassed 1,000, including well-known startups such as FastFive, Socar, and Idus. Word of mouth among HR managers is spreading well, and the speed of new company registrations is accelerating recently."

The competitiveness of Greeting lies in its ability to evaluate and communicate with applicants from multiple recruitment platforms. It enables two-way communication rather than one-sided notifications. CEO Lee explained, "With the shift to rolling recruitment, communication between applicants and companies has become important. Greeting allows flexible responses to various situations, including communication with applicants."

Doodlin's strategy is to develop Greeting as a hub for various recruitment-related services. They anticipate that companies conducting the entire recruitment process through Greeting will want to handle other recruitment-related tasks within the platform as well. CEO Lee said, "In the future, services that support job-centered recruitment methods will be spotlighted. We are focusing on product advancement so that more companies can use Greeting services at the center of this trend."

The immediate goal for this year is to maximize user satisfaction. CEO Lee emphasized, "Within this year, we plan to add essential major features and continue to meticulously revise and improve Greeting to stabilize it."
