Near Cheongnyangni Station, Basement 1 to 4 Floors, Total Area 3,057㎡... Care for 106 Elderly Possible
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 9th that it completed the construction of the ‘Seoul Metropolitan Dongdaemun Silver Care Center’ near Cheongnyangni Station, a key transportation hub in the northeastern area of Seoul, at the end of August and plans to begin operations within the year.
The ‘Seoul Metropolitan Dongdaemun Silver Care Center’ was implemented as part of Seoul’s public service expansion measures for the elderly and provides high-quality care services for elderly residents in the northeastern area suffering from age-related diseases such as dementia and stroke in response to the aging society.
The center was built with a total floor area of 3,057㎡, consisting of one basement floor and four above-ground floors, and can accommodate care services for 106 elderly individuals. Especially, since it is adjacent to the Gyeongui-Jungang Line railway, nursing rooms were placed at the front to block external noise, and the space was designed around a courtyard to create a healing and caring environment where the interior and exterior coexist.
The walking paths and rest areas installed around the building, as well as the therapeutic garden on the rooftop, are expected to greatly aid in emotional support, cognitive function improvement, and dementia prevention for the elderly. Additionally, community-friendly spaces such as a book caf? will be provided for local residents to relax, not just for users of the care facility.
The construction of the Seoul Metropolitan Dongdaemun Silver Care Center began in August 2019 and was completed in 2 years and 1 month. After detailed preparations following completion, it is scheduled to officially open in the first half of 2022.
Lee Jeong-hwa, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Urban Infrastructure Headquarters, stated, “With the completion of the Seoul Metropolitan Dongdaemun Silver Care Center, we will be able to provide high-quality public services to elderly residents in the northeastern area,” and added, “We expect this to gain momentum for the expansion plan of public nursing facilities aimed at meeting the demand and improving the quality of elderly care services promoted by the city.”
