Dongmyung University, 'Metaverse' Becomes a Reality on Campus for Both Classes and Employment Special Lectures

Maximum 130 Concurrent Users, Employment Lectures Starting in October Following Introduction to Curriculum Classes

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongmyung University in Busan is conducting employment special lectures through the 'Metaverse.' Following the introduction of the metaverse method in regular courses, it is rapidly applying it to on-campus events such as special lectures.

Up to 130 people can connect simultaneously. Starting from October, the peak employment season, it will be implemented as employment competency enhancement education for 3rd and 4th-year students. A video introducing this is currently being produced.

Accessibility has been increased by using a popular metaverse platform. It is implemented as an app that anyone can download anytime.

It is optimized for a social environment where non-face-to-face methods such as social distancing are encouraged due to COVID-19.

This approach is interesting to the younger generation familiar with avatar 3D games and virtual environments.

Shin Dong-seok, Director of the University Job Center, said, "With many non-face-to-face activities due to COVID-19, we have moved beyond two-dimensional online education to present more fun, three-dimensional, and dynamic employment special lectures."

Since September this year, Dongmyung University has started 'Metaverse' classes in courses such as 'Design Presentation' and 'Capstone Course' in the Department of Visual Design (Department Head Jeong Won-jun).

The compound word 'metaverse,' combining 'meta,' meaning virtual or transcendence, and 'universe,' meaning world or cosmos, refers to an online space that goes beyond virtual reality to include social and economic activities.
