[Naju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City is operating a ‘Shopping Day’ to revitalize consumption in traditional markets and alleyway commercial districts during the busy holiday season.

On the 7th, according to Naju City (Mayor Kang In-gyu), as part of coexistence with small business owners and self-employed people struggling due to COVID-19, the period from the 10th to the 19th, when the Chuseok holiday begins, has been designated as ‘Traditional Market and Shopping District Shopping Days.’

On the 13th, starting with officials from Dasimyeon and social organizations at Dasi 5-day Market, and on the following day, the 14th, employees from the City Hall’s General Affairs, Future Strategy Industry, and Council Secretariat, as well as public institution executives and employees including the National Radio Research Agency, Korea Post Information Center, and Korea Power Exchange, will participate in the shopping campaign at Naju Moksago-eul Market.

Then, on the 15th, employees from the Safety City Construction Bureau, Agricultural Technology Center, and Health Center will purchase holiday ritual supplies and Chuseok gifts at Yeongsanpo Pungmul Market.

Naju City has encouraged employee participation by sending official letters to government offices and public institutions, and has posted promotional banners in major city areas to activate the use of traditional markets, shopping districts, and Naju Love Gift Certificates and cards.

In cooperation with the Consumer Education Central Association Jeonnam Branch Naju Chapter, plans are in place to guide and crack down on consumer price maps and illegal measurement activities during the holiday season.

Mayor Kang In-gyu of Naju said, “With the increase of large distribution companies, changes in consumption patterns such as online shopping, and the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the management recession of alleyway commercial districts continues,” adding, “We hope that through the COVID coexistence national support fund and the use of local currency and cards, both traditional markets, small business owners, and consumers will have a prosperous holiday season.”
