[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Nam-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Park Hee-yul) held an extraordinary session plenary meeting on the 7th and adopted the 'Resolution Urging the Declaration of the End of the Korean War and a Peace Agreement.'
In the resolution, the Nam-gu Council stated, "We wish for peace on the Korean Peninsula and, furthermore, peace in Northeast Asia, and urge the governments of the South, North, and the United States to actively engage in the declaration of the end of the war and the peace agreement."
It continued, "The April 27 Panmunjom Declaration and the North Korea-US summit were joint efforts by the related countries to establish a peace regime," adding, "Now, three years later, the declaration of the end of the war and the peace agreement have disappeared, and the US-China hegemony confrontation in Northeast Asia is forcing confrontation between the South and North, becoming an obstacle to peace on the Korean Peninsula."
Therefore, it asserted, "We urge the declaration of the end of the war and the conclusion of a peace agreement for peace on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia."
Assemblyman Oh Young-soon, who proposed the resolution as the representative, said, "The government should return to the spirit of the South-North April 27 Panmunjom Declaration, resume inter-Korean dialogue, and the National Assembly should actively engage in the declaration of the end of the war and the peace agreement for peace, regardless of party lines."
She also emphasized, "We urge the Biden administration to fulfill the promises of the North Korea-US Singapore summit and actively engage in the declaration of the end of the Korean War and the peace agreement."
