[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie revealed that she suffered during her marriage to her ex-husband, actor Brad Pitt. She especially mentioned that there were many conflicts because Pitt tried to collaborate with film director and producer Harvey Weinstein, who sparked the #MeToo movement.
On the 4th (local time), Jolie said in an interview with the British Guardian about her book 'Know Your Rights', "I'm still in legal disputes with Brad Pitt," expressing this.
Jolie explained that the reason for writing this book was because of what her children went through, and when asked if she was talking about Pitt's domestic violence, she nodded. Jolie confessed, "I am not someone who makes decisions lightly. It took a long time to decide to separate from the father of my children."
Jolie said that conflicts arose because Pitt wanted to work with Weinstein. Weinstein was an influential film producer in Hollywood, but it was revealed that he had committed sexual assault against numerous women over more than 30 years, sparking the #MeToo movement. Among those sexually harassed by Weinstein were several famous actresses including Jolie, Uma Thurman, Cate Blanchett, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Jolie had previously confessed that she was also a victim when the #MeToo movement broke out in October 2017, saying, "In 1988, during the promotion of the film 'Flying by Heart,' Weinstein tried to make unwanted physical contact with me in a hotel room."
Jolie said that Pitt approached Weinstein to join as a producer for 'Killing Me Softly,' which was distributed by the Weinstein Company, and this became a source of conflict between them. Jolie claimed, "We fought. It was very painful. Pitt knew about Weinstein's wrongdoings but was happy to work with him."
Meanwhile, Jolie and Pitt met through the 2005 film 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' and married in 2014. However, Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, accusing Pitt of abusing their eldest son Maddox, and the two legally became strangers in April 2019. They have six children in total: their biological children Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox, and adopted children Maddox, Pax, and Zahara.
