LG Uplus and Japan's KDDI Host Contactless Concert Featuring The Boyz and ATEEZ

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] LG Uplus announced on the 6th that it will collaborate with Japanese telecom company KDDI to jointly produce and broadcast an online K-POP concert. This is the first time that Korean and Japanese mobile carriers have collaborated on a contactless performance.

Accordingly, the online concert "2021 THE BOYZ & ATEEZ ONLINE LIVE: “2WILIGHT ZONE”," featuring idol groups THE BOYZ and ATEEZ, will be held on the 17th. The live performance will be exclusively broadcast on ‘U+IdolLive’. Customers can purchase tickets through the ‘U+IdolLive’ application and website, Interpark Ticket, and MyMusicTaste.

2WILIGHT ZONE was planned to help customers experience K-POP stages contactlessly amid difficulties in holding large-scale events due to social distancing. The company explained that considering the global spread of K-POP’s popularity, accessibility for domestic and international fans was enhanced through joint planning with overseas telecom companies.

Through this online concert, customers will be able to enjoy about 10 or more stages for approximately 90 minutes. They can watch live broadcasts of new songs by THE BOYZ and ATEEZ, who are gaining attention as next-generation K-POP artists. THE BOYZ, who made a comeback on August 9 with their 6th mini-album THRILL-ING, not only ranked high on major Korean music charts but also achieved an unprecedented feat by topping the iTunes album and song charts in 16 countries overseas. ATEEZ is also drawing attention by starting fan participation voting for their promotional songs ahead of the release of their 7th mini-album ZERO : FEVER Part.3 on September 13. In particular, ATEEZ has gained worldwide love, having placed a total of eight songs on the US Billboard 'World Digital Song Sales Chart' in 2021 alone.

The online concert can be viewed by anyone regardless of telecom carrier. The performance will take place from 7:30 PM to about 9 PM on the 17th. Tickets for live viewing cost 27,500 KRW (VAT included), and package products including each idol group’s merchandise vary from the 40,000 KRW range to the 90,000 KRW range depending on the composition.

With a purchased ticket, simultaneous access is allowed on up to two devices. Supported devices include mobile, PC, and TV. On mobile, users can download and use the U+IdolLive app from the Android and iOS app markets. On PC, viewing is available through the U+IdolLive website, and on IPTV, it can be watched via U+tv.

Choi Yoonho, Head of XR Business at LG Uplus (Executive Director), said, “In line with the rising status of K-POP in the global market, we are jointly promoting the performance content business for the first time with the overseas telecom company KDDI,” and added, “We hope the online concert prepared by both companies will help alleviate the stage thirst of global K-POP fans even a little.”
