Tokyo Stock Exchange Considers 30-Minute Extension of Trading Hours

Tokyo Stock Exchange Considers 30-Minute Extension of Trading Hours Tokyo Stock Exchange

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The Tokyo Stock Exchange in Japan is considering extending its stock trading hours by 30 minutes to encourage investment.

On the 3rd, Japan's public broadcaster NHK reported that the Tokyo Stock Exchange is coordinating a plan to extend the current trading hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. starting in 2024.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange aims to attract investment and increase trading volume and transaction amounts through the extension of trading hours.

The fact that the market capitalization of listed companies has not significantly increased compared to exchanges like New York or Shanghai has been a driving factor behind this proposal to extend trading hours.

The Tokyo Stock Exchange previously extended its closing time once, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in 1954.
