[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Lee Jae-myung, the ruling party's presidential candidate and Governor of Gyeonggi Province, proposed a joint response by presidential candidates of the party on the 'prosecution accusation scandal' involving former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol on the 3rd.
Through Facebook on the same day, Lee said, "This is not a matter to weigh pros and cons by candidate, nor is it something to respond to individually," adding, "As a candidate belonging to the Democratic Party who has opposed any form of political manipulation, I empathize with the seriousness of the issue and believe we must uncover the truth and prepare countermeasures. It would be good to hold a joint press conference as soon as possible."
He also urged the Democratic Party, saying, "Please mobilize all party forces to respond." Lee emphasized, "We should urgently convene the Judiciary Committee to enforce a joint investigation by the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and the Ministry of Justice, and if necessary, also call for a national audit and investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials," adding, "It would be good to promptly hold a rally to express the Democratic Party's strong will to the public."
He continued, "I propose a joint response from the democratic reform camp. This is not just an issue concerning Yoo Si-min, Choi Kang-wook, and Hwang Hee-seok," raising his voice, "It would be good if all democratic reform camps, including the Democratic Party, Open Democratic Party, and Justice Party, seek a joint response."
He added, "If the prosecution, which not only privatizes prosecutorial power but also plans political intervention and retaliatory commissioned investigations, then it is only a subject of relentless reform," and "Once again, I confirm the legitimacy of prosecutorial reform."
