On the 1st of next month at Gwangju Bitgoeul Citizen Culture Center, and on the 4th at Yeosu GS Caltex Yeulmaru Grand Theater
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Gugak Orchestra announced on the 30th that the planned performance "Spring of Myanmar, Meeting Gwangju" will be held on the 1st of next month at the Gwangju Bitgoeul Citizen Culture Center and on the 4th at the Yeosu GS Caltex Yeulmaru Grand Theater.
First performed in May, "Spring of Myanmar, Meeting Gwangju" conveys that the history of May Gwangju, cultivated through blood, sweat, and tears, is now a ray of hope for the people of Myanmar who are currently at the forefront of the democratization struggle. The stage was prepared to rekindle the fading flame of interest in Myanmar.
This performance will be hosted by voice actor Eun Young-sun, well known for her narration on KBS's "Love's Request" and "Human Theater," and is structured with three parts named after the three fingers symbolizing the "three-finger salute," a symbol of resistance against the Myanmar military junta.
The first finger represents "One thing we want, only democracy," the second finger "Shouts of victory, a world where people live," and the third finger "Spring of peace made together," performed in that order.
Key programs include many newly restructured pieces based on the theme songs of "Spring Day," an oratorio collective play commemorating the 40th anniversary of the May 18 Democratization Movement, which premiered early last year.
The Myanmar Student Association in Korea "Spring of Myanmar" and bereaved families of May 18 victims, including Lee Myung-ja and Choo Hye-sung's mother, are specially invited to share comforting and moving stories under the theme "Myanmar youth ask the May mothers."
Ryu Hyung-sun, Artistic Director of the Jeonnam Provincial Gugak Orchestra, said, "In this performance, Myanmar youth will pour out cries of pain with pure eyes, the May mothers will embrace these tender youths and touch their vocal cords with words of deep compassion, and the members of the Jeonnam Provincial Gugak Orchestra will respond with songs, dances, performances, and drumming together," adding, "I hope it will be a time to awaken the 'five senses of peace' where their pain resonates as my own pain for the audience."
Zin Min, representative of the Myanmar Student Association in Korea "Spring of Myanmar," who is collaborating with the Jeonnam Provincial Gugak Orchestra for the second time following the previous performance, said, "I want to let many people in Korea know that they have not forgotten Myanmar and are supporting us," and added, "I hope this performance can be even a little strength to the people of Myanmar, and I wish for the day when we can watch a performance with the Jeonnam Provincial Gugak Orchestra together in Myanmar."
The planned performance "Spring of Myanmar, Meeting Gwangju" will be conducted safely in strict compliance with the quarantine and prevention guidelines recommended by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, and tickets can be reserved by phone or through the online ticketing site Ticketlink.
Ticket prices are ▲General 10,000 KRW ▲University students, Jeonnam residents, military, police, and fire officials, groups (10 or more) 7,000 KRW ▲Students, paid members (Namdo 2 tickets, Pungnyu 4 tickets) 5,000 KRW ▲Free admission for seniors aged 65 and over, preschool children, holders of the Culture Nuri Card (self), national merit recipients, and persons with disabilities (one accompanying person).
