Dobong-gu, First Autonomous District in Seoul to Appoint ESD Specialist Instructor

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) held the '2021 ESD Specialist Instructor Appointment Ceremony and ESD Practice Research Group Launch Ceremony,' the first of its kind among Seoul's autonomous districts, on August 26.

The 2021 ESD Village Specialist Instructor Training Course was conducted from April to July this year. It was established to support classes using two types of sustainable development education (ESD) textbooks for elementary students titled "17 Promises Connecting Our Village to the Planet," which Dobong-gu independently produced in 2020 through public-private-academic collaboration. This training course aimed to cultivate expertise and teaching capabilities that can build consensus on ESD values based on citizens' ecological literacy and to create 'citizen knowledge-based jobs.'

The 10 final selected ESD specialist instructors passed theoretical classes, field training, written exams, and interviews according to the ESD specialist instructor training program planned and operated directly by Dobong-gu. These selected instructors will begin activities in the second half of the year as 'ESD specialist instructors' and members of the 'Dobong-gu ESD Practice Research Group.'

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu stated, "The '17 Promises Connecting Our Village to the Planet' ESD textbook, developed independently by Dobong-gu last year, has received great attention. The fact that these ESD specialist instructors are the 'first ESD village specialist instructors among Seoul's autonomous districts' with expert knowledge of ESD is highly significant. Additionally, the launch of the Dobong ESD Practice Research Group is important as it establishes a foundation where residents can independently learn sustainable development education and develop expertise. We will strive to position our district as a hub for sustainable development education through the training of ESD village specialist instructors."
