[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Gangnam Jevisco Co., Ltd. announced on the 26th that it has jointly developed a water-based paint, 'Pureunsol DuraShield Primer,' which protects cracks in buildings caused by concrete carbonation, together with the major construction company DL E&C.
Concrete carbonation is a phenomenon where the durability of buildings deteriorates due to various external environments such as carbon dioxide and acid rain, which can cause corrosion of the internal reinforcing steel of buildings. This phenomenon can cause cracks on the exterior walls of buildings, rapidly reducing the durability and strength of the concrete, thereby shortening the lifespan of the building.
'Pureunsol DuraShield Primer' has excellent resistance to carbonation, which lowers concrete strength, and possesses high elasticity, enabling it to respond to crack formation. In addition, its outstanding waterproof properties block moisture penetration into the exterior walls of buildings, which is expected to dramatically improve durability.
Generally, exterior walls of buildings are coated twice with exterior water-based paint, but when using Pureunsol DuraShield Primer, the functions of reducing carbonation, waterproofing, and crack resistance can be achieved with just one coat of the primer followed by one coat of exterior water-based paint.
A representative of Gangnam Jevisco stated, "Through joint research with DL E&C, we have developed an eco-friendly water-based paint, Pureunsol DuraShield Primer, that can protect buildings from various external environments and enhance durability." He added, "We plan to continue research and development to create various functional paints that can improve the building environment."
