Sang-kyu Park, President of Chung-Ang University, and Yoon-mo Sung, Former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Appointed as Co-Chairs
Aiming for Early Achievement of Carbon Neutrality by 2030 and Leading Domestic and International Carbon Neutrality
Establishing ESG Platform-Based Data Sharing and Subscription Model and Industry-Academia-Research Network
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Chung-Ang University (President Park Sang-gyu) announced on the 25th that it has launched the ‘2030 Carbon Neutral ESG Sharing Forum,’ where the top domestic experts gather to achieve early carbon neutrality and lead related industries.
The co-chairs of the forum are Park Sang-gyu, President of Chung-Ang University, and Sung Yun-mo, former Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy. Lee Hyun-soon, Senior Advisor of Doosan Group (former Vice Chairman), was appointed as the Chair of the Advisory Committee, and Park Sang-hyung, Executive Vice President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, Park Jong-hyun, Vice President of Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and Park Jin-hoe, former President of Citibank Korea, were appointed as co-vice chairs. In addition, experts related to carbon neutrality and ESG serve as professional committee members, subcommittee chairs, and secretaries to support the operation of the forum.
The forum’s goal is to advance the planned carbon neutrality achievement year from 2050 to 2030. To this end, it plans to lead the domestic and international carbon neutrality industries by creating an ESG platform-based data sharing and subscription model. It also aims to establish an ESG-linked system by building an industry-academia-research network and minimize the costs of building supply chain management (SCM) by industry. Based on the industry-academia-research network, the forum plans to build an ESG data platform to share vision and implementation strategies.
The forum operates under five main subcommittees. The ‘ESG Clean Technology Platform Subcommittee’ is responsible for carbon-neutral industrial technology and clean open platforms, and clean technology trend analysis. The ‘Carbon Neutral Energy Environment Subcommittee’ handles sector-specific energy efficiency improvement measures and carbon reduction plans for carbon neutrality, as well as impact analysis of carbon neutrality. The ‘Intelligent ESG SCM Subcommittee’ conducts analyses of ESG management strategic tasks and response strategies, and the correlation between ESG activities and corporate value enhancement. The ‘Regulatory Sandbox Planning Subcommittee’ plans to conduct ESG regulation and policy analysis and legislative improvement research on new technologies. The ‘Carbon Border Adjustment Tax Response Subcommittee’ analyzes international environmental regulations and carbon-related policy trends of domestic and foreign imported items.
The forum inauguration ceremony held the day before at Building 102 (College of Pharmacy and R&D Center) on Chung-Ang University’s Seoul campus proceeded in the order of ▲Welcome speech by Co-chair Park Sang-gyu ▲Congratulatory speech by Co-chair Sung Yun-mo ▲Encouragement speech by Advisory Chair Lee Hyun-soon ▲Introduction of attendees ▲Keynote presentations ▲Open discussion ▲Appointment certificate ceremony ▲Closing ceremony ▲Commemorative photo session.
Professor Park Se-hyun of Chung-Ang University’s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, who gave the keynote presentation, discussed the overview of carbon-neutral ESG, the necessity of data-platform sharing and utilization, and scenarios for early realization of carbon neutrality, emphasizing platform miniaturization, the promotion of a log governance system, and data sharing.
In his welcome speech, Co-chair Park Sang-gyu said, “The biggest issue related to carbon neutrality and ESG, which have become essential for survival rather than a choice, is who will take the lead in the market amid fierce global competition.” He added, “Now is the right time to steadily prepare future environmental and energy industry platforms. I hope you will present creative ideas and various development directions so that Korea can soar higher and farther.”
