Number of Confirmed Cases: 1,104 in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, 546 in Non-Metropolitan Areas
Spreading Across Non-Metropolitan Areas, Showing a 'Nationwide Trend'
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The fourth wave of COVID-19 continues to show no signs of subsiding. On the 24th, confirmed cases surged across the country.
According to the quarantine authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, a total of 1,650 new confirmed cases tested positive for COVID-19 from midnight to 6 p.m. on the same day. This is 479 more than the 1,171 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
The increase in confirmed cases is analyzed to be due to the disappearance of the weekend and holiday testing decrease effect. Typically, the number of cases shows a sharp rise starting Wednesday (based on the announcement date).
By region, the metropolitan area accounted for 1,104 cases, while non-metropolitan areas had 546 cases.
By city and province, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 499, Seoul 488, Incheon 107, Gyeongnam 87, Daegu 75, Busan 73, Gyeongbuk 71, Chungbuk 57, Daejeon 44, Gangwon 40, Chungnam 38, Jeju 18, Ulsan 17, Gwangju 11, Jeonbuk 10, Jeonnam 4, and Sejong 1.
Confirmed cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
Since there is still time left until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at midnight on the 25th could exceed 2,000 if the increase continues.
Recently, the spread has been expanding into various non-metropolitan areas, showing a nationwide pattern.
Recent major cluster outbreaks have been confirmed in everyday places such as workplaces, sports facilities, churches, and high schools.
The cumulative confirmed cases related to workplaces in Seocho-gu and Gangnam-gu, Seoul, have increased to 32, and the number of confirmed cases related to a sports facility in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon, totals 9.
At a church in Daedeok-gu, Daejeon, a total of 11 people tested positive.
