Facebook and TikTok Also Expand Content Investment
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] YouTube content creators have generated $30 billion in revenue through advertisements over the past three years.
According to foreign media reports including Bloomberg on the 23rd (local time), YouTube, the world's largest video-sharing platform, announced that it has paid more than $30 billion (approximately 34.989 trillion KRW) to over 2 million video content creators in the past three years.
As YouTube gained popularity, the number of people professionally producing video content has reached 2 million.
YouTube has been sharing advertising revenue with content creators since 2007. Typically, YouTube is known to take only 45% of the video content advertising revenue.
YouTube users subscribe to at least 1,000 services annually and watch an average of 4,000 hours per year, according to research.
Neil Mohan, YouTube's Chief Product Officer (CPO), stated, "We have no plans to change this revenue-sharing policy going forward."
According to Bloomberg, competitors such as Facebook and TikTok have tried to recruit YouTube content creators by offering financial incentives, but there has been little progress.
As the importance of content services increases, aggressive investments by platform companies are continuing.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced last month that he would pay $1 billion to content creators by 2022. TikTok is also reportedly planning to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in content creation.
