[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the morning of the 24th, Lee In-young, Minister of Unification, held a breakfast meeting with Sung Kim, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea at the State Department, to discuss bilateral cooperation measures between South Korea and the U.S. for the early resumption of South-North-U.S. talks.
Minister Lee emphasized the need for efforts to stably manage the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and its future outlook, expressing hope that South Korea and the U.S.'s engagement efforts toward North Korea will yield results.
Representative Kim confirmed the absence of hostile intent toward North Korea and the necessity of close cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. to resolve the Korean Peninsula issue through diplomacy and engagement, including humanitarian cooperation.
Both sides agreed to continue communication and cooperation to advance inter-Korean and North Korea-U.S. relations.
