"Work Halted Without Safety Assurance" Daewoo Construction's 'Safety Innovation Declaration Ceremony'

"Work Halted Without Safety Assurance" Daewoo Construction's 'Safety Innovation Declaration Ceremony' Employees participating in the Daewoo E&C Safety Innovation Declaration Ceremony are shouting slogans. The third from the left is Kim Hyung, Daewoo E&C Business Representative, and the fourth is Jeong Hang-gi, Daewoo E&C Management Representative.

Daewoo E&C announced on the 24th that it held a 'Safety Innovation Proclamation Ceremony' to eradicate serious accidents and unveiled its 'Safety Innovation Plan.'

Looking at the main contents of the 'Safety Innovation Plan,' first, Daewoo E&C will elevate the Quality and Safety Office, a CEO-directly controlled organization, to the Safety Innovation Headquarters with a strong control tower function. Through organizational strengthening, the company plans to organize the system, verify that the system operates well on-site, and promote continuous safety innovation.

Second, Daewoo E&C announced that it will invest more than 140 billion KRW in safety budgets over the next five years. In addition to the legally mandated safety management costs, a separate budget will be allocated to significantly expand safety-related infrastructure such as strengthening safety education, investing in safety facilities, and establishing smart safety systems.

Third, the company set a goal to secure practical safety by permanently deploying 500 safety supervision personnel on-site. Additional deployment of construction managers leading safety management activities, safety monitoring teams, and safety-dedicated personnel from partner companies will prevent safety blind spots caused by a lack of safety managers on-site.

Fourth, Daewoo E&C stated that it will grant contract priority rights to excellent safety management partner companies and provide industry-leading incentives such as reductions in construction performance deposits. Furthermore, the company will support capability enhancement programs that enable partner company headquarters to secure safety independently in cooperation with external specialized institutions and guarantee the costs incurred for safety management personnel such as safety officers deployed on-site.

Finally, the company will promote a 'work stoppage right' system that allows workers to request a halt in work to secure safety when a risk occurs or is anticipated on-site. All workers' work stoppage rights will be guaranteed, with rewards given for excellent cases. In addition, Daewoo E&C announced that it will collect on-site opinions without filtering through an IT system-based 'Safety Hotline' channel that allows anonymous reporting and reflect them in improving internal safety management policies.

At the proclamation ceremony, Daewoo E&C President Kim Hyung said, "Safety is a value that cannot be compromised or conceded to anything, so do not work without securing safety," expressing a strong will to eradicate serious accidents.
