[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Goyang City in Gyeonggi Province will provide an additional support fund of 100,000 KRW per person to low-income households facing economic difficulties due to the prolonged spread of COVID-19, paid collectively to household accounts.
According to the city on the 24th, the additional national support fund recipients include approximately 32,500 basic livelihood security recipients who receive monthly living, medical, and housing benefits, about 4,200 legally designated near-poverty class individuals, and around 1,400 single-parent families receiving child-rearing expenses, totaling approximately 38,100 people.
For existing welfare benefit recipients, the payment will be made collectively to their welfare benefit accounts without a separate application process. For those who do not receive monthly benefits or some near-poverty class individuals, the provincial administrative welfare center will verify accounts and make payments by the 15th of next month, before Chuseok.
Lee Jae-jun, mayor of Goyang City, stated, "I hope the additional national support fund will provide even a small help to low-income individuals living alone or those who find it difficult to engage in work activities."
