[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] A technology with an explosive power more than 50% stronger than conventional gunpowder has been independently developed.
On the 24th, the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) announced that it has developed a technology with enhanced explosive power using a multi-array method. By utilizing the multi-array method, the ratio of gunpowder to raw materials can be adjusted according to the target object. Although the volume decreases depending on the target, the explosive power becomes stronger.
An ADD official explained, "When weapons equipped with gunpowder using the multi-array method are used to neutralize structures in open fields, they show an explosive power increased by more than 50% compared to the performance of conventional gunpowder."
He added, "This technology is suitable for destroying various types of targets such as open field structures and tanks," and "It is expected that explosive performance can be dramatically increased in future weapon system developments."
ADD developed the technology over five years from 2016 to last year through a core technology project by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. ADD also stated that it will focus its research capabilities on applying the newly developed technology to weapon systems.
