Yoon Seok-yeol 27.7%, Lee Jae-myung 26.7% 'Neck-and-neck Within Margin of Error'
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol and Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung have formed a two-horse race in the next presidential candidate support survey. Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon’s recent upward trend has stalled, showing a decline in approval ratings.
According to a public opinion poll conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting on the 21st and 22nd, when asked who among multiple presidential candidates is suitable as the next president, 27.7% of respondents chose former Prosecutor General Yoon. Those who expressed support for Governor Lee accounted for 26.7%, with the gap between the two within the margin of error.
Former leader Lee received 12.7%, People Power Party lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo 8.7%, former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung 4.4%, former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min 3.4%, former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae 2.9%, former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun 2.8%, Justice Party lawmaker Shim Sang-jung 2%, former Deputy Prime Minister for Economy Kim Dong-yeon 1.2%, former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong 1%, and Democratic Party lawmaker Park Yong-jin 0.4% in order.
Compared to the same question asked on the 24th and 25th of last month, former Prosecutor General Yoon’s support rose by 3.4 percentage points, while Governor Lee’s dropped by 1.9 percentage points. Former leader Lee’s approval rating fell by 4.2 percentage points. It is also notable that Yoon, who had been in trouble due to various controversies, reduced his external activities and went into ‘seclusion,’ which contributed to the rise in his support.
Win-G Korea analyzed, "Last week, as negative issues related to the Coupang fire incident surfaced, Governor Lee’s unfavorable factors were highlighted, and former Prosecutor General Yoon relatively gained a reflective benefit."
