[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] As Typhoon No. 12 "Omais" approaches, numerous domestic flights departing from Gimpo and Jeju International Airports have been canceled.
According to the Korea Airports Corporation on the 23rd, as of 9 PM, 86 flights have been canceled, including an Air Busan flight departing from Gimpo Airport at 5:35 PM to Gimhae Airport, as well as flights to and from Jeju and connecting flights.
Among the canceled flights, those departing from Jeju Airport were the most numerous with 37 flights (25 to Gimpo, 7 to Gimhae, 2 to Cheongju, and 1 each to Ulsan, Pohang, and Gunsan). Next were 32 flights departing from Gimpo Airport (25 to Jeju, 4 to Gimhae, 3 to Ulsan), 9 flights from Gimhae Airport (3 to Gimpo, 6 to Jeju), and 4 flights from Cheongju Airport all bound for Jeju.
Currently, typhoon warnings have been issued for four airports near the typhoon: Jeju, Gimhae, Yeosu, and Sacheon. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 8 PM on the same day, Typhoon Omais is moving northeast at 54 km/h about 8 km west of Seongsan, Jeju, on land.
