[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] Typhoon No. 12 'Omais' is moving northward toward the distant sea south of Jeju Island.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 21st, Omais, which formed around 9 p.m. the previous day, is moving northwest in the sea south of Okinawa, Japan, this morning. The central pressure is 1004 hPa, and the maximum wind speed is 18 m/s.

The typhoon is expected to weaken into a tropical depression around the sea south of Seogwipo by the evening of the next day and transform into an extratropical cyclone near the sea southwest of Ulleungdo within three days. It is not expected to have a direct impact on South Korea. However, a large amount of water vapor will flow into South Korea, potentially causing heavy rain in the southern regions.

The Korea Meteorological Administration analyzed that from the afternoon of the 23rd to the 24th, due to the influence of the weakening tropical depression moving northward from Omais, heavy rain and strong winds will occur in Jeju Island, the southern coast of Jeollanam-do, and the Gyeongsang region.
