Human Rights Commission's Recommendation to Strengthen Support for Children Aging Out of Care Accepted by Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Ministry of Employment and Labor

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The government has accepted the recommendations of the National Human Rights Commission to substantially improve the human rights of children aging out of protective care and has prepared improvement measures.

The Human Rights Commission welcomed the government's acceptance of the recommendations on the 18th, stating, "We hope that the government’s newly prepared support measures will be effectively implemented and that national interest and support for the independence of children aging out of protective care will continue in the future."

Previously, the Human Rights Commission recommended ▲establishing a foundation to strengthen tailored support for children aging out of protective care ▲actively providing support information ▲preparing psychological stability support measures ▲improving housing conditions ▲strengthening vocational training and educational support.

The government, led by the Office for Government Policy Coordination and involving related ministries, reviewed all matters including the Human Rights Commission’s recommendations through the 'Task Force to Strengthen Independence Support for Children Aging Out of Protective Care,' which has been operating since April this year, and last month prepared the 'Measures to Strengthen Support for Children Aging Out of Protective Care' reflecting the intent and content of the Human Rights Commission’s recommendations.

This plan includes specific measures to strengthen support for children aging out of protective care, such as the Ministry of Health and Welfare supporting the nationwide establishment of dedicated independence support institutions and expanding dedicated personnel, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport providing public rental housing and public housing support, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor supporting vocational training.
