[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The United States is reportedly planning to recommend booster shots to all citizens as early as this week.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on the 16th (local time), citing two administration officials, that "the Joe Biden administration is expected to issue a recommendation as early as this week that 'the majority of the population should receive a booster shot 8 months after completing their initial vaccination series.'

The highest priority for vaccination is expected to be residents of nursing facilities and healthcare workers. The vaccine to be used is being considered to be the same as the one received during the first and second doses.

NYT stated, "The authorities' goal is to make the public aware of the need for an additional defense against the Delta (India-origin) variant."

AP News also cited multiple sources, stating that "widespread booster shot administration will take place after approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."
