ATE1, POSTECH Sign MOU for Joint Development of Metaverse Content

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] EightOne, a metaverse solution specialist company, announced on the 17th that it has signed an industry-academic cooperation agreement (MOU) with POSTECH for joint development of VR (virtual reality) and metaverse content.

EightOne and POSTECH will share technical advice and technical data information for VR and metaverse content development, and cooperate in advancing technology for content development and commercialization. In addition, they will jointly develop content in the fields of safety and disaster response, non-face-to-face lectures, as well as open scenario virtual experiment content.

After this MOU, EightOne plans to provide content utilizing jointly developed technology on the metaverse platform currently under development. POSTECH will also apply the outcomes to VR and metaverse-based education and continuously expand the scope of application.

Choi Cheolsun, CEO of EightOne, said, “While securing a large amount of content is important for platform activation, content quality is also crucial. We expect to provide high-quality content through joint development with POSTECH.”

Kim Muhwan, President of POSTECH, stated, “This MOU is a meaningful starting point for POSTECH, which aims to expand its campus into a Metaversity through the metaverse. Through cooperation with EightOne, we expect to expand VR-based content beyond major courses such as general physics experiments already in operation to various areas including liberal arts education in humanities and social sciences and student counseling.”

POSTECH provided VR devices to all freshmen in the 2021 academic year and operated VR-based general physics classes, as well as held mixed reality (MR) classrooms that utilize VR and AR.
