Taleban Raises Taleban Flag at Kabul Presidential Palace
Taleban Spokesperson, "Guarantees Safety of Residents and Diplomats"
[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] The Taliban, who have taken control of Afghanistan, declared victory in effect on the 15th (local time), stating "the war is over."
Al Jazeera broadcast footage showing Taliban commanders along with dozens of armed fighters at the presidential palace in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on the same day. The broadcast reported that after seizing the Afghan presidential palace, the Taliban raised their flag.
A Taliban spokesperson told Al Jazeera on the day, "The war in Afghanistan is over," adding that the governing method and regime form will soon be decided. The Taliban stated, "We assure everyone that we will support the safety of residents and diplomatic envoys. We are ready to engage in dialogue with all Afghan figures and will guarantee the necessary protection."
Through public addresses and media interviews, the Taliban have also continuously conveyed messages about forming an open government and meeting the expectations of the people.
Suhail Shahin, a Taliban spokesperson, told the Associated Press after the Taliban entered Kabul that they are conducting talks to establish an "open and inclusive Islamic government." In a live interview with the British BBC, he also expressed the position that they want a "peaceful transfer of power" in Afghanistan over the coming days.
The Taliban also announced their policy to meet the people's expectations and resolve issues. Baradar, the Taliban's political chief, said in a video message that while the Taliban's victory is an incomparable achievement, the true test of governing Afghanistan begins now that they have seized power. Baradar self-assessed that the Taliban's victory was swift and unmatched by any opponent worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Taliban took control of Afghanistan's state TV in Kabul on the same day and urged Afghans to remain calm through a public address.
