[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As the Islamic militant group Taliban entered Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on the 15th (local time) and forecasts emerged that the Afghan government would soon surrender, our government is also closely monitoring the situation on the ground.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on the afternoon of the 15th, "Currently, our embassy personnel are still staying in the area," and added, "We are closely watching the situation."

According to major foreign media, the Taliban has taken control of all major cities within Afghan territory and has begun entering the capital, Kabul. The fall of Kabul is imminent, and there are reports that the Afghan president is also expected to resign soon.

The U.S. embassy has begun a full-scale withdrawal, and President Joe Biden has approved the deployment of 5,000 U.S. troops to support this effort.

Our embassy personnel are still staying locally, but if the situation escalates rapidly, there is a possibility of withdrawal in cooperation with related countries.
