Large Waste Disposal in Nowon-gu Becomes Easier

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) has improved its large waste disposal system.

The goal is to enhance residents' convenience by making it easy and simple to apply for large household waste disposal non-face-to-face, and to reduce illegal dumping and improve urban aesthetics through accurate and prompt collection.

Large waste refers to bulky waste such as furniture and household items that are too large to be disposed of in volume-based waste bags. Recently, due to COVID-19 and increased time spent at home, interest in home interior has grown, resulting in a 12.1% increase in large household waste disposal in the district compared to the previous year.

As preference for non-face-to-face administrative services has increased due to COVID-19, the district has improved the system so that applications, payments, cancellations, and refunds can be made anytime, 24/7, via computer or mobile by accessing the website.

You can access the system by typing ‘Smart Clean Nowon’ in the PC or mobile search bar or through the main page of the Nowon-gu Office website. You enter the disposal date, location, and items, then make the payment. The disposal items have also been greatly expanded, subdividing about 154 items into 259 according to specifications for application.

For disposal, there is no need to separately print the disposal certificate; you simply upload a photo on the website and attach a note with the certificate number on the waste. The disposal certificate has been revised to delete personal information such as name, disposal location, and amount, listing only the disposal number to strengthen privacy protection.

Additionally, to increase administrative transparency and reliability, users can receive text message notifications about the processing results upon collection completion.

Previously, if the disposal certificate was damaged or lost, collection was difficult, but with the system improvement, disposal reports are linked to a real-time map immediately, allowing collectors to collect quickly and accurately.

Meanwhile, the district is working to spread a resource circulation culture centered on local recycling centers, reuse shops, and recycling markets. In particular, the recycling center, which collected 8,358 items and sold 7,356 last year, opened its third branch in Sanggye-dong this May, becoming a hub space for resource circulation.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “Through service improvements, large waste disposal applications can now be made non-face-to-face from application to cancellation easily and conveniently,” and added, “We will continue to carefully monitor and improve to ensure there is no inconvenience in residents’ lives.” Nowon-gu Office Resource Circulation Division
