[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] Samsung Electronics unveiled its new foldable smartphone, the 'Galaxy Z Flip3,' at the 'Galaxy Unpacked 2021' event on the night of the 11th. It features a sleek and compact design, improved camera, and a cover display that is four times larger than its predecessor, combining both style and functionality.

The most noticeable change is the cover display, which is four times larger than the previous model. While the main display remains 6.7 inches as before, the cover display has increased to 1.9 inches. Users can check up to 8 lines of notifications, emails, and messages on the cover display without opening the phone. Samsung Pay can also be used while the phone is closed. Additionally, wallpapers that match the phone’s color can be changed frequently.

The camera functions have also been significantly enhanced. Using the 'Flex Mode,' users can shoot hands-free, and features like 'Auto Framing' automatically adjust the composition based on the number of people in the shot. The 'Dual Preview' allows both the photographer and the subject to see the preview simultaneously. Moreover, the 'Quick Shot' feature lets users double-press the power button to launch the camera and take photos or videos using the cover display without opening the phone.

It also features a display with a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, showing up to 120 frames per second, providing a smooth and optimized viewing experience tailored to the content, such as web browsing or photo sharing.

The Z Flip3 will be available in four colors: Cream, Green, Lavender, and Phantom Black. Accessories like the 'Ring Grip' and 'Strap Case' that enhance portability will also be introduced. Samsung Electronics announced plans to exclusively sell additional color models such as Gray, Pink, and White on its official website to offer a wider range of choices.

Samsung Electronics will release a limited edition 'Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition' in collaboration with the luxury brand Thom Browne in select countries. In Korea, it will be sold through an online lottery system, with applications starting at 9 a.m. on the 12th via the Samsung Electronics website.

The Z Flip3 will be released sequentially worldwide, starting with Korea, the United States, and Europe on the 27th of this month. The price is approximately 400,000 KRW cheaper than its predecessor, at 1,254,000 KRW.
