"Baek Geon-woo Performance Online"... Jeong Mong-gu Foundation Hosts Gyechon Classic Festival

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The '7th Gyechon Classic Festival,' part of the Art Village Project hosted by the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation and organized by the Korea National University of Arts, will be held online for two days on the 21st and 22nd, the foundation announced on the 12th.

The Chung Mong-Koo Foundation explained that the Art Village Project was created to comfort citizens weary from COVID-19. This festival will be broadcast live on Naver TV, and from the 6th of next month, each performance program will be sequentially released as VOD on the Art Village TV channel for one month.

At this festival, pianist Baek Geon-woo, who has been active as a performer for 65 years, will take the stage. Since 2013, after Schubert, Baek has focused solely on devising new perspectives and interpretations of Chopin's music. In 2019, through a new Chopin album, he introduced the complete set of Chopin's Nocturnes, seemingly representing Chopin himself. That same year, Baek completed a 15-city tour with a Chopin recital. Baek Geon-woo is scheduled to perform Chopin's Nocturnes again at this festival.

Moreover, at this year's Gyechon Classic Festival, audiences can also enjoy performances by pianist Kim Sun-wook, who won the youngest and first Asian champion titles at the 2006 Leeds International Piano Competition and rose to stardom, as well as violinist Clara Jumi Kang, known for her impeccable elegance and balance, performing Beethoven sonatas.

Additionally, the festival features piano performances by Daniel Lindemann, the festival's promotional ambassador, along with various classical artists such as Yeom Jeong-je and Jeong Hye-wook, creating a harmoniously composed stage.

The Chung Mong-Koo Foundation and Korea National University of Arts have been conducting the Art Village Project since 2015. The project connects the cultural assets of local villages with various artistic genres to create opportunities for community members to enjoy the inspiration and value of culture and arts in their daily lives.

This year, starting with the 7th Gyechon Classic Festival, a variety of cultural and artistic programs will be held, including the 7th Dongpyeonje Gugak Festival, which will take place over two days on October 2nd and 3rd in the Vision and Jeonchon villages area of Namwon, Jeonbuk.
