[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the number of people enjoying camping, which involves relatively less face-to-face contact, has significantly increased, leading to a rise in the popularity of camping food.

Permill, a specialty food platform operated by Siktagiinneun Salm, announced on the 12th that sales of unique camping foods sold during July increased up to four times compared to the same period last year. The variety of products has also expanded, with T-bone steak, which allows you to enjoy both sirloin and tenderloin, seeing a 190% increase in sales, and lamb shoulder rack, the front leg and shoulder part of lamb, increasing by 59%.

Sales of seafood suitable for grilling also rose. King tiger shrimp, neatly prepared and ready to eat, and crayfish, freshly delivered by air, saw sales increases of 162% and 258%, respectively. Domestic Japonica eel sales jumped more than fourfold (341%). Peaches (1736%) and fresh blueberries (1410%), which are good for dessert, also saw sales increase more than elevenfold during the same period.

Other popular camping foods on Permill include the "Iberico Bellota Donmahawk." There is also the "Jjukumi Command Jjusam Set," a set consisting of stir-fried baby octopus marinated in natural fruit sauce and Korean pork belly. Ready-to-cook meal kits such as "Sichuan-style Chili Pepper Stir-fry Meal Kit," "Goshirang One Meal Hot Tteokbokki Meal Kit," and "Kodari Bibim Naengmyeon Meal Kit" are also available. Additionally, "Assorted Wrap Vegetables," convenient for enjoying with barbecue products at the campsite, "Cheonjin Yakdan Chestnuts," which are pre-scored for easy grilling over charcoal, and "Chodang Corn," known for its sweet and crunchy texture, are also sold.

A Permill representative said, "Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, consumers purchasing barbecue-related products for both home and camping use have greatly increased. As a platform dealing with specialty foods, we are making various efforts to source high-quality camping foods that are not commonly found in the market."
