[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] A man in his 30s who was struck by lightning at a sheep ranch in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, survived after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) from a dispatched 119 rescue team member.

According to the Gangwon Fire Headquarters on the 10th, around 1:05 PM that day, a man in his late 30s, Mr. A, was struck by lightning at the sheep ranch in Hoenggye-ri, Daegwallyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun. A nearby tourist reported that he was unconscious, prompting the dispatch of emergency responders.

At the time of the accident, a thunderstorm with lightning was occurring in Daegwallyeong, preventing the fire department helicopter from taking off. When the Daegwallyeong 119 Safety Center paramedics arrived at the scene, Mr. A was in cardiac arrest and unconscious.

Three rescue team members repeatedly performed CPR, including chest compressions and artificial respiration, and Mr. A regained breathing, pulse, and consciousness before arriving at the hospital.

If oxygen is not supplied to the brain within the golden time of 4 minutes for a cardiac arrest patient, brain cells are damaged. Therefore, performing CPR is essential to increase the survival rate of cardiac arrest patients.

Yoon Sang-gi, head of the Fire Headquarters, said, "I am grateful that another precious life could be saved thanks to the prompt on-site response and emergency treatment by the paramedics."
