Triumph with Awards at Clio Awards, New York Festival, and Cannes International Advertising Festival
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Dongseo University students have achieved a remarkable feat by sweeping the world's top three advertising awards.
On the 10th, Dongseo University announced that the ideas of students who completed the convergence capstone design under the LINC+ project team all won awards at the world's top three advertising festivals.
Following the silver award at the 2021 Clio Awards, two works by Dongseo University students were selected as finalists at the New York Festivals finals. They were also selected as finalists at the Cannes International Advertising Festival.
The award-winning work bruised Doll is a submission by students Kwon Jeong-ah, Kim Ro-ah, Park Jae-min, and Yoon Ji-hye.
Students Son Young-min, Lim Soo-bin, Park Ga-bin, and Kim Min-seok won the New York Festivals with Animal Guardians.
WEGO, created by students Lim Soo-bin, Kim Dae-yeop, Jang Ji-soo, Kang Dong-ho, and Jung Ji-won, won awards at both the New York Festivals and the Cannes International Advertising Festival.
The Clio Awards, Cannes International Advertising Festival, and New York Festivals are classified as the world's top three advertising festivals.
The awards at the three major advertising festivals are the results of the 'Ideation Convergence Practice' course, one of Dongseo University's LINC+ convergence education programs. Professors Ryu Do-sang from the Department of Advertising and Public Relations and Moon Mi-kyung from the Department of Software worked as a team to guide the projects.
The Clio Award-winning bruised Doll is a work that stands out for its idea encouraging parents to reflect on their verbal habits toward their children.
Among those who verbally abuse children, 80% are the children's parents, and most do not realize that their words constitute violence.
This verbal abuse causes serious damage to the child's brain. Therefore, AI technology that recognizes the parent's voice and words was integrated into the doll, which is designed to bruise when it detects verbal violence such as shouting and swearing. The bruising appearance encourages parents to reflect on their verbal habits.
The New York Festivals award-winning Animal Guardians is an idea that uses animals to help detect wildfires early.
Wild animals injured by traps and other causes are treated and then released wearing the 'Animal Guardians' sensor. If a fire occurs in the forest, the sensor worn around the animal's neck detects it and transmits the fire location.
The New York Festivals and Cannes International Advertising Festival award-winning WEGO is a Lego game using the Nintendo Switch.
By connecting the Joy-Con to a round board and playing, the background is randomly set, and a prompt word appears.
The AI and player take turns building creative Lego structures with unlimited blocks. It is a work that fosters creativity in children.
Lim Soo-bin (College of Design) said, "I am happy that the idea, which came from the team's hard work and 고민, shone at a major advertising festival," adding, "Above all, I am grateful to the professors who guided us."
Jo Dae-su, head of Dongseo University's LINC+ project team, said, "We will designate Ideation Convergence Practice as a prestigious course at Dongseo University and spare no support."
