[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Democratic Party lawmaker Ahn Min-seok posted on Facebook on the 9th, demanding that "Choi Jae-hyung explain the pro-Japanese activities of his great-grandfather and grandfather."
Lawmaker Ahn stated, "Until now, Choi Jae-hyung has pretended to be a descendant of independence activists. However, this is no different from the Manchurian Army being disguised as anti-Japanese fighters," and shared related reports.
The reports revealed that Choi Jae-hyung's great-grandfather worked for the official newspaper of the Joseon General Government and pro-government organizations, and that his grandfather ran for a seat in the Gangwon Provincial Council, a local advisory body under the Japanese Governor-General of Korea, but was defeated. Lawmaker Ahn also conveyed reports stating that Choi’s grandfather "donated 20 won to the national defense fund in 1938 (at that time, one sack of rice cost 1 won), showing loyalty to Imperial Japan."
Ahn said, "This is not about applying the guilt-by-association principle, but the problem is that Choi Jae-hyung is pretending to be a descendant of independence activists and patriots," adding, "Ahead of Liberation Day, Choi Jae-hyung, who has been cosplaying as a descendant of independence activists, needs to explain and apologize for the pro-Japanese activities of his great-grandfather and grandfather."
