Ondure Communities in Jeonju Region Join Efforts to Achieve '2050 Carbon Neutrality'

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 9th that local Ondure communities will actively participate in realizing ‘2050 Carbon Neutrality’ by practicing reducing disposable products and engaging in environmental protection education and campaigns.

According to Jeonju City, the handicraft community ‘Good People (Representative Hwang Su-jin)’, which has developed into the cooperative ‘Good Workshop’, decided to offer discounts on beverage prices to customers who bring their own tumblers at their self-operated cafe.

At ‘Ajung-ri Mom (Representative Choi Chun-kyung)’, eco-friendly local foods will be used and reusable containers will be utilized during after-school cooking classes. The ‘Ieung Daum’ cafe, opened in Seonmi Village, will package sandwiches in paper boxes instead of plastic cases and offer discounts when beverages are purchased using tumblers.

Additionally, the apartment community ‘Songcheon Xi Association’ will continue activities that foster proper environmental awareness among apartment residents, such as campaigns to refuse plastic spoons and wooden chopsticks when ordering delivery food, and making eco-friendly scrubbers and dishwashing soap.

‘Predeco (Representative Mo Areumdri)’ plans to produce and distribute videos on daily practices for carbon neutrality and conduct a donation campaign for recycling used umbrellas.

‘Donghwa Narae Research Institute (Representative Moon Seong-sook)’ will perform a puppet play about the environment and energy conservation next month at Geonji Library.

Furthermore, care communities such as ‘Nanwodream (Representative Park Ok-seon)’, ‘Sarangbang Education Culture Welfare Community (Representative Lee Guk-haeng)’, and ‘Dodam Dodam Research Institute (Representative Kim Hee-woo)’ will conduct Earth guardian education, recycling practice education, and environmental camps for children.

In April, Jeonju City declared its commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral city by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2035 and achieving zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in cooperation with private organizations centered on environmental groups, and launched an ecological city public-private cooperation organization.
