[On-site Video] "We Will Reveal the Truth" 100 Days Since the Late Son Jeongmin Case... Citizens 'Memorial'

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, PD Yoon Jin-geun] "Let's pursue the truth," "Let's not give up!"

It has been 100 days since the so-called 'Hangang University Student Incident' occurred on the 7th. Members of the 'People Seeking the Truth of the Banpo Hangang Incident' (BanJinSa) gathered at 7 p.m. at Banpo Hangang Park in Seocho-gu, Seoul to commemorate the late Son Jeong-min.

Civil rescuer Cha Jong-wook emphasized, "Is there anyone who has spent more time at the scene than I have?" and "Let's never lose interest and pursue the truth." Mr. Cha discovered Son's body underwater in the Hangang River not far from the missing location last April.

Statements from BanJinSa members followed. Member A said, "If the issue had been properly resolved, we wouldn't have a reason to gather," adding, "Only suspicions are piling up, and it's frustrating."

Member B said, "I'm sorry we haven't revealed the truth of that day in 100 days," criticizing the authorities by saying, "Why is the handling like this..."

Citizens gathered at the Hangang that day also sang a modified version of the song 'Firefly' with lyrics demanding the "release of the original CCTV footage."

At the end of the event, members read aloud a letter from Son Jeong-min's father, Son Hyun.

In the letter, Son Hyun wrote, "I'm really sad that the investigation into those who made you like this and took you away from us has hardly progressed. You know there are so many people working hard from morning till night to find the truth, right?" He added, "Those who took away your future and stole our happiness will surely pay the price."

Cafe operator and YouTuber 'Jongi' explained, "From our perspective, the truth has not been revealed in 100 days, so we are here to seek the truth," adding, "We held this memorial event here to show that we are with Jeong-min so he won't be lonely." He emphasized, "We will also take legal action if additional evidence or witnesses come forward."

Meanwhile, on the 6th, the side of Son Jeong-min's friend A filed lawsuits against about 200 malicious commenters who posted defamatory and false statements about A on the internet, charging them with defamation and insult.

Yang Jeong-geun, attorney at law firm One & Partners and legal representative of A, visited Seocho Police Station in Seoul around 11 a.m. that day to submit complaints against 273 malicious commenters.

Attorney Yang told reporters, "We plan to file charges for defamation by false facts and defamation by stating facts under the Information and Communications Network Act, and to cover unacknowledged cases, we came to file charges for defamation and insult under the Criminal Act."

Attorney Yang stated, "I believe this kind of incident could happen again in the future," adding, "We do not consider this a simple malicious comment but see it as a collective cyber lynching (violence) against the family." He further said, "Those who express willingness to settle first will be treated leniently, but we will respond firmly to the rest."
