(Suncheon Bio Healthcare Research Center) Selected for Rural Development Administration's 'Agricultural Science and Technology R&D Project'

Research on Alternative Protein Technology Development as Future Food Resources

(Suncheon Bio Healthcare Research Center) Selected for Rural Development Administration's 'Agricultural Science and Technology R&D Project'

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The Suncheon Bio Healthcare Research Center Foundation (Chairman Heo Seok, hereinafter referred to as the ‘Bio Center’) announced on the 6th that it was selected for the project titled ‘Investigation of Materialization and Development Technology Trends Related to Alternative Proteins Using Insects, etc.’ by participating in the ‘Core Strategic Convergence Issues and Future New Industry Technology Development Project’ contest hosted by the Rural Development Administration.

The Bio Center signed a promotion agreement with the Rural Development Administration on the 28th of last month and will begin full-scale project execution starting January next year.

Through this research project, the Bio Center will identify domestic and international trends in materialization and technology development of alternative protein materials using insects and natural resources, and propose core technology tasks for the materialization of alternative protein raw materials. This will serve as basic data for business planning related to the development of future food materials aimed at achieving carbon neutrality.

As a research institution funded by Suncheon City, the Bio Center is expected to play a significant role in the development and industrialization of future food materials through linkage with the natural product bioindustry currently underway in the city.

Additionally, by applying various natural resources cultivated and produced in the region to the development of alternative proteins, which are emerging as future food sources, the center plans to utilize them in future food material development projects.

A representative of the Suncheon Bio Center stated, “The global market related to alternative proteins is growing at an annual rate of over 3%, indicating significant growth potential. We plan to utilize the diverse patents held by the center in the field of biotransformation to specialize in alternative protein development technology. Through this project, we aim to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality and public health by developing alternative proteins as future food resources.”
