[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will conduct special inspections on karaoke rooms and game service establishments in the area to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Suwon City announced that it has organized an inspection team of about 340 public officials to check compliance at 721 karaoke rooms under a gathering ban administrative order until the 15th.
The city will impose strong administrative measures, including fines of up to 3 million KRW and claims for damages, on karaoke room owners who violate the administrative order in accordance with the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.
In addition, compliance with quarantine rules will be inspected at 593 game service establishments such as PC bangs, arcades, and multi-rooms.
Game service establishments are restricted from operating from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day during the social distancing level 4 period. PC bangs must keep one seat empty between users, and arcades and multi-rooms are limited to one user per 8 square meters of facility area.
A city official said, "Recently, COVID-19 infections due to close contact among users have been increasing in karaoke rooms and game service establishments," and urged, "Owners of these businesses must strictly follow the administrative orders and quarantine rules."
