Government Strongly Condemns Attack on Merchant Ship in Omani Waters

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The government recently condemned the attack on the merchant ship Mercer Street near international waters off Oman, stating it "strongly condemns" the incident.

On the 6th, through a spokesperson's statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said, "This attack is a clear violation of international law, and all vessels must be able to navigate freely in international waters."

It added, "We oppose all actions that undermine peace and stability in the Middle East region and express our deep condolences and sympathy to the sailors who died in this incident and their families."

Earlier, on the 29th of last month, the Mercer Street, an oil tanker operated by an Israeli shipping company, was attacked near the waters off Oman, presumed to be by a drone.

As a result of the attack, two people lost their lives: one British captain and one Romanian security officer. Following the incident, Israel, the United States, and the United Kingdom pointed to Iran as being behind the attack.
