[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Yeosu Office of Education announced on the 5th that from the 2nd to the 6th, a 5-day “2021 Special Education Support Center Summer Vacation Program” was held at 8 excellent local career experience sites, with 108 special education students from elementary, middle, and high schools in the district participating.

This program was prepared under the theme “Hope is close, dreams are higher, the future is together” to promote self-development, social skills, and independence of special education students during the vacation.

The program was conducted as professional experiential activities through a cooperative system with related local community organizations, and students participated in each program by dividing the number of participants while strictly adhering to COVID-19 quarantine rules.

In addition, experiential activities considering students’ interests and emotional support such as cooking, magic, horticulture, and pottery, as well as vocational skill-demanding experiences such as jewelry making, barista, crafts, and woodworking were conducted together to provide opportunities for leisure activities and career exploration.

Kim Hae-ryong, the superintendent of education, said, “Although it is a short period during the vacation, I hope the burden of parenting, which has increased due to COVID-19, will be reduced,” and added, “We will continue to show interest and support so that special education students can find their talents, aptitudes, and dreams through more diverse career experiences.”
