Teen Accomplice "Taepyeongyang" in Doctor's Room Case Sentenced... Maximum 10 Years Imprisonment

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] The prison sentence for Lee Mo (17), who used the ID 'Taepyeongyang' and was part of the 'Doctor's Room' group that produced and distributed sexual exploitation materials involving minors, has been finalized.

According to the legal community on the 5th, Lee submitted a withdrawal of appeal to the Supreme Court's 3rd Division (Chief Justice Lee Heung-gu) on the 13th of last month. Accordingly, the prison sentence of 10 years long-term and 5 years short-term, which was handed down by the second trial court, has been confirmed.

Under the Juvenile Act, minors under the age of 19 who commit crimes can be sentenced with an indeterminate sentence divided into long-term and short-term terms, setting upper and lower limits for the sentence period. After serving the short-term sentence, they undergo evaluation by correctional authorities and may be released early before the long-term sentence expires.

Lee was prosecuted on charges of producing and distributing obscene materials under the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles Against Sexual Abuse, by creating a separate chat room called 'Taepyeongyang Expedition' from 2019, when he was in the third year of middle school, until February last year, where sexual exploitation videos were distributed.

The second trial court recognized Lee's charges as guilty and sentenced him to the maximum legal sentence of 10 years long-term and 5 years short-term imprisonment. Lee is the first among the 'Doctor's Room' members to have a finalized sentence. The Supreme Court is currently reviewing the cases of Jo Joo-bin (25) and others.

In the second trial, Jo was sentenced to 42 years in prison, former public service worker Kang Mo (25) received 13 years, former Geoje City Hall official Cheon Mo (30) was sentenced to 13 years, and paid members of the Doctor's Room, Im Mo and Jang Mo, were sentenced to 8 years and 7 years respectively.
