Jeonju-si Inhu·Banchon Urban Regeneration Project 'On Track'

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] The Inhu-Banchon urban regeneration New Deal project in Jeonju City is gaining momentum, with the purchase of land for the establishment of key facilities and the signing of agreements with related business operators.

According to Jeonju City on the 5th, the Inhu-Banchon area urgently needs improvement, as over 93% of the total 471 buildings are old and deteriorated structures.

After being selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s public contest project last December, Jeonju City will invest a total of 35 billion KRW, including 10 billion KRW in national funds and 10.9 billion KRW from the public corporation LH, by 2024 to improve the residential environment.

Accordingly, Jeonju City purchased a site with a total floor area of 1,170㎡ to build the Eoullim Platform, which will house a small library, village restaurant, cultural cafe, and the integrated residential welfare support platform consisting of the home repair support team and village workshop.

In addition, an agreement was signed with the joint project partner, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), for the construction of the facility.

Jeonju City also plans to open an on-site support center at the end of this month to strengthen communication with local residents.

The Inhu-Banchon urban regeneration New Deal project, with the vision of “Jiusan Village, becoming each other’s umbrella,” aims to transform the area into a livable village through various projects focused on △ creating a comfortable village △ creating a village for people △ creating our village.

Major projects include the creation of the Jiusan Eoullim Platform, the integrated residential welfare support platform including 63 units of Happy Housing, local self-repair support, creation of walkable paths, safe alley garden projects, generation-converged startup spaces, small park development, and urban planning road construction.

A city official said, “Urban regeneration projects are very important as they are directly related to improving the quality of life of local residents, and communication and participation with citizens will be the key factors determining the success or failure of the project.”
