[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) actively identified and supported low-income crisis households facing difficulties, resulting in the full execution of this year's budget of 3.78 billion KRW in the first half of the year, thereby securing an additional emergency welfare budget of 3.2 billion KRW.
This year, Seo-gu's total emergency welfare budget is 6.98 billion KRW, which is a 60% increase compared to last year's budget of 4.2 billion KRW, enabling more support for marginalized groups.
'Emergency welfare' is a system that provides rapid support for living expenses, medical expenses, and housing costs to low-income crisis households who have difficulty maintaining their livelihood due to sudden crisis situations such as the death of the main income earner, accidents, unemployment, or business closure, helping them overcome the crisis.
The criteria for emergency welfare support are households with income below 75% of the median income, property below 350 million KRW, and financial assets below 5 million KRW.
The support amount for a household of four is 1,266,900 KRW per month for living expenses, provided for six months, and medical expenses up to 3 million KRW (with one possible extension).
In case of a crisis, anyone can apply through consultation at the local administrative welfare center of their residence, the Welfare Benefits Division, or the Health and Welfare Call Center.
A Seo-gu official stated, “We will make further efforts to quickly support living and medical expenses for low-income crisis households struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, helping them overcome disaster situations and maintain a stable life.”
