The Top Gainer Stock is Sejong Medical
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Dunamu, the operator of the domestic cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, announced on the 5th that in its securities application ‘Securities Plus,’ the theme and stock with the highest rate of increase for the month of July were secondary battery materials and parts, and Sejong Medical, respectively.
The secondary battery theme rose 13.26% over the month, securing the top spot in growth rate. Last month, when the European Union (EU) announced the ‘Fit for 55’ bill centered on the introduction of a carbon border tax, the secondary battery theme emerged as a beneficiary industry. The carbon emission rights theme also attracted attention as a beneficiary industry of Fit for 55 alongside secondary batteries, rising 12.39% over the month and ranking third.
Secondary battery-related stocks included EcoPro, Sanga Frontech, Cosmo Advanced Materials, and Solus Advanced Materials. Stocks related to carbon emission rights included Igeon Industry, EcoBio, and KC Cottrell.
In second place was the metaverse theme, which rose 13.23%. The launch of the first exchange-traded fund (ETF) in the U.S. aimed at metaverse investment is interpreted as having influenced the domestic stock market as well. Metaverse platform company Maxst recorded an all-time high subscription competition rate of 6763 to 1 for its initial public offering. News of Facebook’s entry into the metaverse also drew investor interest to related stocks such as Dexter and Giant Step.
The multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) theme recorded a 9.14% increase, ranking fourth. As the COVID-19 Delta variant spread, Malaysia, where Japanese MLCC companies are concentrated, extended its regional lockdown period, raising expectations of a windfall for domestic parts companies. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Daewoo Electronics Materials, and Cosmo Advanced Materials are representative stocks of the MLCC theme.
Following that, the Mount Kumgang tourism theme, boosted by news of the restoration of inter-Korean communication networks, ranked fifth. Ananti, Ilsin Stone, and Hyundai Elevator (Hyundai Ellevate) are representative Mount Kumgang tourism theme stocks.
Among individual stocks, Sejong Medical rose 185.15% over the month, taking first place in growth rate. The news of transferring management rights to Time Investment through a third-party allotment paid-in capital increase on the 23rd of last month acted as a positive factor.
In second place was C-Lab, which rose 128.45%. It is interpreted that being a partner of U.S. semiconductor company Nvidia and being considered a beneficiary of the metaverse had a positive impact. Kukjeon Pharmaceutical rose 92.43%, ranking third. Kukjeon Pharmaceutical showed strength as it is known to supply raw materials for COVID-19 treatment candidate substances to the biotech company Shaperon.
Other notable companies included medical device developer Korea BNC, power transmission and distribution equipment manufacturer Seojeon Electric, capsule endoscopy specialist Intromedic, maritime and mineral extraction supplier Next Science, and bio-research and development related basic materials and equipment manufacturer Bioneer.
