[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] With confirmed cases pouring out from churches and Taekwondo gyms, Daegu recorded 121 new daily confirmed cases.
This is the highest number of confirmed cases since March 11 of last year, when the Shincheonji Church outbreak was severe.
Among the new confirmed cases, some infections caused by the highly transmissible Delta variant have been identified, and the spread centered around churches and sports facilities is uncontrollable, recalling the nightmare of Daegu's first major outbreak in March last year.
According to Daegu City on the 5th, 121 new confirmed cases were added the previous day, including 120 local infections and 1 imported case, bringing the cumulative total to 11,951.
Seventy-five people were confirmed positive in religious facilities related to churches in Suseong-gu, Dong-gu, and Dalseo-gu.
At a Taekwondo gym in Suseong-gu, attended by children of Suseong-gu church members, 14 additional cases occurred, increasing the cumulative confirmed cases related to the Taekwondo gym to 69.
Five more cases were added related to the cluster infection at Seomun Market in Jung-gu.
As confirmed cases rapidly increase through churches and sports facilities, Daegu City is considering 'pinpoint quarantine' measures for these facilities.
